Make sure the area is safe for you and the victim. Remove any dangers if you can.
Look for traffic, fire, electrical hazards, or aggressive people.
Gently tap the person on the shoulder and shout, “Are you OK?”
If they don’t respond within 5 seconds, act fast.
If no response, call 999 immediately or ask someone nearby to do it.
Use speakerphone so you can start CPR immediately.
Tilt the head back and lift the chin. Look, listen, and feel for breathing for no more than 10 seconds.
If not breathing or only gasping, prepare for chest compressions.
Place the heel of one hand on the centre of the chest. Put the other hand on top and interlock fingers.
Press down hard and fast, about 100-120 compressions per minute (think “Stayin’ Alive” rhythm).
Push at least 5cm deep. Let the chest rise fully between compressions.
As soon as an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) arrives, turn it on and follow the voice prompts.
Continue CPR until emergency help arrives or the person shows signs of recovery.
Stay calm. Your quick actions can save a life.
